What’s the goal of addiction treatment?

Charlene: The goal of treatment is to bring back healthy sexuality into the individual’s lifestyle. Unlike with the other substances where it’s totally eradicated and you don’t use a substance anymore, with sex it’s not so much about we’re not going to have sex. It’s we’re going to learn how to have the healthy sex. We’re going to be positive about sex. We’re going to embrace sex instead of cutting it out of our lives and that’s something that people really have to be careful with, because the other part of sex addiction is sexual anorexia and you can just go completely the other end of the spectrum and avoid sex, and that’s really not what the goal of treatment is.
